How we rank

Our Jeddah ranking weights five factors. Academic results across A-Level, IB Diploma and AP. Faculty quality and stability. University destinations across the last three graduating classes. Verified parent feedback in our review database. And the campus infrastructure that supports the academic claim. We do not weight tuition fee, which we treat separately. Read our wider piece on Jeddah school fees for the structural fees picture.

A school sitting outside the top 10 may still be the right fit for your child. This list is a starting shortlist for relocating families, not a verdict on every school.

Export a PDF and share it with a spouse or relocation consultant. Need a hand narrowing the list? Send us a short brief and we will reply with three to five Jeddah schools matched to the family profile, with no fee. The cost calculator turns the school choice plus housing into a year one budget that you can stress test against the assignment package.

Fees and the loading effect

Published tuition in Jeddah is roughly 15 to 20 per cent below the all-in cost. Capital levies, transport, books, technology, exam fees and supplementary charges add up to a meaningful loading. For honest 2026 to 2027 planning, multiply published tuition by 1.15 to 1.20. A Tier 1 BISJ A-Level place at SAR 90,000 tuition costs roughly SAR 105,000 (USD 28,000) all-in. A Tier 2 place at SAR 55,000 lands closer to SAR 65,000 (USD 17,000). See our deeper analysis in the Jeddah international school fees 2026 piece.

Most Tier 1 enrolments in Jeddah are corporate or government funded under an assignment package. Self funded enrolments at Tier 1 happen but are not the majority. If you are negotiating an offer, the education clause matters more than the salary number for a two child family on the Tier 1 track.

Neighbourhoods that match these schools

Jeddah commutes are short by Gulf standards. Most school journeys run twenty to thirty five minutes door to door from the central expat areas. The cleanest geographies for school plus housing fit:

  • Al Hamra and Al Shati: BISJ, Aldar Academy. Coastal, premium, established expat residential.
  • Al Rawdah and Al Salama: Continental School, JKS. Modern, central and well served by family logistics.
  • Al Andalus and Al Naeem: Saudi German, Manarat. Slightly south, value tier housing inventory.
  • North Jeddah / King Abdullah Road corridor: AISJ and several newer schools. Newer compounds and villa stock.
  • Al Aziziyah: International Indian School and value tier alternatives. Best for families on shorter assignments.

For the neighbourhood by neighbourhood breakdown, including compound versus standalone villa rents, see our companion piece on best areas to live in Jeddah for expat families. Pair it with the Jeddah city guide for healthcare, weekends, the family entertainment circuit and the broader expat ecosystem.

Admissions timing and waitlists

Tier 1 Jeddah schools have waitlists for popular year groups (FS1, FS2, Y7 and Grade 9 entry) running six to fifteen months. Tier 2 and Tier 3 schools largely have rolling availability. The standard Jeddah cycle is September entry, with applications opening in October the prior year and assessments concentrated November through February. For mid year arrivals, expect availability in less popular year groups but realistic waiting at BISJ Year 1, Year 7 and AISJ kindergarten. Some schools run a small February intake, particularly for kindergarten and lower primary places, which can suit families relocating on the standard Q1 corporate cycle.

Sibling priority is honoured at every Tier 1 school. The single biggest leverage point during admissions is a clear assignment letter and a target arrival window. Schools accommodate corporate relocations more readily than open ended self funded applications. Our Moving to Jeddah with children guide covers the visa, iqama and registration sequence that interacts with school enrolment.

One Jeddah specific point worth flagging: assessment for Year 7 and above generally includes English language testing, a maths paper and a short interview. Children moving from another international school usually present strong evidence through their existing curriculum reports, and offers tend to come quickly. Children moving from a national curriculum overseas may face a stretch in the English assessment. The Tier 1 schools all run an English as an additional language route, but the route is finite, and capacity decisions are made early in the cycle.

The Vision 2030 expansion of Jeddah's economic corridor means several new schools have opened along King Abdullah Road and the Obhur waterfront since 2023. These newer entrants are still building cohorts and academic track records, so they sit outside our top 10 for the moment. They are worth watching, particularly for families relocating in 2027 and beyond when first cohort A-Level and IB results will tell us whether the academic claim matches the marketing brochure.

FAQ

Which is the top international school in Jeddah?
The British International School of Jeddah (BISJ) and the American International School of Jeddah (AISJ) sit at the top of their respective curriculum tracks. For families targeting the IB Diploma, BISJ and Continental School of Jeddah both run credible programmes. There is no single best school. The right answer depends on curriculum, neighbourhood, fees and the child's profile.

How much do international schools in Jeddah cost in 2026?
Top tier international schools in Jeddah charge SAR 70,000 to SAR 95,000 per year in tuition for upper secondary, with primary at SAR 45,000 to SAR 65,000. Add 15 to 20 per cent for capital levies, transport and supplementary fees. Mid tier options sit between SAR 30,000 and SAR 55,000.

Can expats enrol their children in Saudi public schools in Jeddah?
Public schools in Saudi Arabia teach in Arabic and follow a national curriculum aligned to Vision 2030 reforms. Expat families who choose this route generally do so for Arabic immersion or because they hold long term residency, but the vast majority of expat children attend the private international sector for curriculum continuity and English language teaching.

Is Jeddah safe for expat families?
Jeddah is a low crime city by global standards. Standard urban precautions apply. The expat residential corridors are walkable in daytime, and most schools operate secure perimeters with controlled access points.
