District 2: Thao Dien

The established expat heartland. Hosts the British International School (BIS), ISHCMC and the Australian School. Family-friendly mid-rise housing, cafes and restaurants on a more human scale than central HCMC. Most families build their life here.

District 7: Phu My Hung

A more planned and ordered alternative to Thao Dien. Newer high-rise housing, dedicated international school cluster (Saigon South, Renaissance, Canadian International School). Suits families wanting more space and infrastructure.

District 1

Central HCMC. Suits families with city-centre offices using city-based international schools or families on shorter postings wanting urban energy. Less family-friendly than the dedicated expat districts.

What to know

Air quality varies seasonally; verify school filtration. The commute between districts is meaningful in HCMC traffic; choose your district around the school, not the other way around.
