The Singapore school landscape
Singapore has the most competitive international school market in Asia. Foreign families have access to 120+ international schools, but supply is tight at the top end. Waiting lists at flagship schools (UWCSEA, Tanglin Trust, SAS, Stamford American) routinely run 12 to 24 months. The Committee for Private Education (CPE) licenses every private school and the Ministry of Education (MOE) maintains additional standards for foreign system schools.
Singapore is now the most expensive city in the world for international school fees. Median secondary tuition is $32,000 per year, and once you add transport, lunch, and ECAs you should expect to budget $36,000 to $48,000 per child. Many companies offer education allowances of $30K to $40K per child as part of expat packages.

Most popular neighbourhoods for families
Holland Village, Bukit Timah and Dempsey are the traditional expat family zones, with easy access to Tanglin and SAS. East Coast (Marine Parade, Siglap) is the budget-friendlier option and is convenient for UWCSEA East and Canadian International. Sentosa Cove and Orchard sit at the premium end. Woodlands is favoured by SAS families. Read our neighbourhood guide to living in Newton with international schools. For a central, riverside condominium base close to Orchard and a dense cluster of schools, read our guide to living in River Valley with international schools.
