Voorschoten

South of Wassenaar, smaller, quieter, slightly cheaper. Strong primary school catchments. The British School of the Netherlands has its junior campus here.

Benoordenhout

Closer to central The Hague, leafy and walkable. Suits families using the European School in The Hague or families with central offices.

Scheveningen

Coastal, more international energy, smaller family housing stock. Suits families on shorter postings or with no school-aged children yet.

What to know

The Hague is small relative to most expat destinations. Most journeys are 15 to 20 minutes by bike or car. The cycling infrastructure is exceptional and most school-age children commute by bike from age 8 or 9.
