Boarding from Asia: the family decision guide

Asian expat families consider boarding in the UK, Switzerland, the US or Canada for three reasons: senior-school depth that local options don't match, university destination orientation, and the rhythm of repatriation planning.

Why families consider it

Asian expat families consider boarding in the UK, Switzerland, the US or Canada for three reasons: senior-school depth that local options don't match, university destination orientation, and the rhythm of repatriation planning.

UK boarding from Asia

The single largest international boarding flow. UK boarding schools have decades of experience taking students from Hong Kong, Singapore, Mainland China, India, Thailand and Korea. Predictable admissions, strong pastoral systems, fees post-VAT at GBP 50,000 to 65,000 per year. See UK boarding from Asia.

Switzerland

Swiss boarding schools (Le Rosey, Aiglon, Beau Soleil, Institut Le Rosey) deliver IB and dual-pathway curricula at premium price points. Fees at CHF 100,000+. Suits families wanting Europe with the Swiss boarding tradition.

US and Canada

US private boarding (Andover, Exeter, Choate, Lawrenceville, Hotchkiss) prepares for US college admissions; Canadian boarding (UCC, Branksome Hall, Appleby College) offers strong outcomes at lower fees.

Timing

Year 7 (age 11) or Year 9 (age 13) are the dominant entry points. Year 12 (Sixth Form) is possible at some schools. Plan 24 months ahead.
