Morocco public holidays 2026
Schools in Casablanca close on Moroccan national holidays. The two Eids, Islamic New Year and the Prophet's birthday move with the lunar calendar and are confirmed close to the date, so treat them as expected. The 2026 dates are:
| Holiday | Date 2026 |
|---|---|
| New Year's Day | Thursday 1 January |
| Proclamation of Independence | Sunday 11 January |
| Eid al-Fitr | Around 20 to 21 March (subject to moon sighting) |
| Labour Day | Friday 1 May |
| Eid al-Adha | Around 27 May (subject to moon sighting) |
| Islamic New Year (Fatih Muharram) | Around 16 June (subject to moon sighting) |
| Throne Day (Fete du Trone) | Thursday 30 July |
| Oued Ed-Dahab Day | Friday 14 August |
| Revolution of the King and the People | Thursday 20 August |
| Youth Day | Friday 21 August |
| The Prophet's Birthday (Mawlid) | Around 25 to 26 August (subject to moon sighting) |
| Green March (Marche Verte) | Friday 6 November |
| Independence Day | Wednesday 18 November |
Most of the major civic holidays cluster in the summer, from Throne Day in late July through Youth Day in August, when schools are already on holiday. During term, the Eid holidays and the Prophet's birthday are the ones to plan around.
Moroccan public school calendar 2025-26
Moroccan public schools follow a national calendar of continuous teaching punctuated by short mid-term breaks, with a longer mid-year break in late January. The published 2025-26 breaks are:
| Break | Dates |
|---|---|
| First mid-term break | 19 to 26 October 2025 |
| Second mid-term break | 7 to 14 December 2025 |
| Mid-year break | 25 January to 1 February 2026 |
| Third mid-term break | 15 to 22 March 2026 |
| Fourth mid-term break | 3 to 10 May 2026 |
| Summer holiday | Early July to early September 2026 |
End-of-year examinations, including the Baccalaureate, run through June, after which schools close for the summer. The 2026-27 year begins with the September rentree, normally in the first or second week of September 2026. Exact opening dates are confirmed by the Ministry over the summer, so use early September as a guide until the official calendar is published.
Choosing a school in Casablanca?
The city runs Moroccan, French and American calendars side by side. Our school finder lists Casablanca schools by curriculum, fee tier and area.
French and American school term dates
Casablanca has one of the largest French school networks outside France, including Lycee Lyautey and the OSUI schools, and these follow the French national calendar rather than the Moroccan one. That means a September start, a week-long autumn break around late October, a Christmas break, a February winter break, a spring break around April and the long summer holiday from early July. The dates broadly mirror those of mainland France, adjusted for Moroccan public holidays. The city's American schools, such as Casablanca American School and George Washington Academy, run a two-semester August to June year with a Thanksgiving break in November and a long summer from June.
The practical point for relocating families is that a French-school child and a Moroccan-school child break at slightly different points through the year, while an American-school child finishes earlier in June and returns in late August. The summer holiday is the one fixed point where all three line up, roughly July and August. To understand how each programme is structured, see our curriculum guides, and for neighbourhoods and the school map our Casablanca city guide has the detail.
Planning the year
Three practical notes for Casablanca families. First, French and American school fees are billed by term or trimester, with the first invoice due before the September start, so plan the largest outflow for late summer. Second, the February winter break at French schools and the long summer holiday are the natural windows for travel to France and Europe, and flights from Casablanca tighten over both, so book early. Third, Ramadan, expected from around mid-February 2026, shortens the school day across all sectors for the month, with Eid al-Fitr around 20 March closing schools for the holiday. For the wider context on living in the city, our Casablanca city guide covers where international families settle.
