Term dates for Copenhagen's state schools are set by the municipality within national rules, rather than by a single nationwide calendar, while international schools layer their own dates on top. Our Copenhagen city guide covers the sector; this page sets out the 2026 dates. The recurring breaks are the autumn week, Christmas, the February winter week and Easter.

Copenhagen public holidays 2026

Term dates 2025-26 and 2026-27

The table shows the Copenhagen municipal shape for 2025-26. The Danish system runs from mid-August to late June, broken up by the regular week-long holidays below rather than a few very long terms.

Christmas holidayaround Monday 22 December 2025 to early January 2026

These dates follow the usual Copenhagen pattern, but the municipality confirms the exact days each year and individual schools can vary slightly. Note that some Danish municipalities take the winter break in week 8 rather than week 7. The Christmas, Easter and summer dates above are indicative and should be confirmed against your school's published calendar before booking travel.

International school term dates

Copenhagen's international schools follow a northern-hemisphere August or September to June year that broadly tracks the Danish state pattern but with some differences. Most international schools take a two-week Christmas break and a one-to-two-week Easter break that may not line up exactly with the municipal weeks, and some keep a full October half-term that matches the Danish week 42. British international schools keep three terms; IB and American schools run two semesters with the IB Diploma exam season in May. The shared anchors with the local calendar are the autumn week, Christmas and Easter. If curriculum is still open, our curriculum guide explains how each system shapes the year and its assessment seasons.

Planning the year

Two practical notes for Copenhagen families. First, the February winter week is the main domestic ski-travel window, and flights from Copenhagen to the Alps and to Norway and Sweden fill early, so book by the new year. Second, because Copenhagen sets its own break weeks, families with children in both Danish and international schools, or in neighbouring municipalities, may face mismatched calendars, so check each one before planning a joint trip. See the national framework in our Denmark country guide and compare systems in our curriculum guide. Start a shortlist from the Copenhagen city hub.
