Frankfurt school holidays 2026: term dates calendar

Term dates for Frankfurt's state schools are set at state level for Hesse, so they are the same across Frankfurt, Wiesbaden, Darmstadt and the rest of the state, while international schools layer their own calendar on top. Frankfurt public holidays 2026

Frankfurt schools close on the statutory public holidays for Hesse, of which there are ten in 2026. Because Hesse is a mixed-confession state, it observes Corpus Christi but not the Catholic-only holidays seen further south.

Ascension Day and Corpus Christi both fall on Thursdays in 2026, which creates two classic bridge days where the Friday is often taken off. These are public closures and sit separately from the school holiday weeks below.

Term dates 2025-26 and 2026-27

The table shows the Hesse school calendar for 2026. The German system runs continuous teaching blocks separated by the fixed holiday weeks, rather than the three-term English structure. Since the 2024-25 year Hesse has standardised on two-week autumn and Easter breaks.

Most international schools take a longer summer break of seven to eight weeks rather than the compact six-week Hesse summer, a two-week Christmas break, and a spring break around Easter that may not match the Hesse fortnight exactly. British international schools keep three terms with an October half-term that aligns loosely with the Hesse autumn break; IB and American schools run two semesters with the IB Diploma exam season in May.
