Madrid school holidays 2026: term dates calendar

Term dates for Madrid's state schools are published by the regional government, the Comunidad de Madrid, while international schools layer their own calendar on top. Madrid public holidays 2026

Madrid schools close on national, regional and local public holidays. The capital combines the nine Spanish national days with Comunidad de Madrid days and two Madrid city festivos, listed below.

Spain frequently bridges a midweek holiday into a long weekend, known as a puente, and Madrid schools often add a non-teaching day (dia no lectivo) alongside. The early-December run of Constitution Day and the Immaculate Conception is a classic puente. San Isidro on 15 May is the Madrid city festival.

Term dates 2025-26 and 2026-27

The table shows the Comunidad de Madrid state-school calendar for 2025-26. The Spanish system runs a long continuous autumn from September to the Christmas break, then a long spring from January to Semana Santa, then a final stretch to June. Unlike the UK, there is no February half-term.

These are the Comunidad de Madrid advisory dates; individual schools can vary a day or two and add their own non-teaching days. Infant and primary stages may finish a few days later in June than secondary. Confirm against your school's published calendar before booking travel.

International school term dates

Madrid's international schools follow a northern-hemisphere September to June year but diverge from the Spanish state calendar in one key way: most British and American international schools add an October half-term week that Spanish state schools do not have. British international schools keep three terms with that October break, a two-week Christmas and a one-to-two-week Easter that broadly overlaps Semana Santa. Planning the year

Two practical notes for Madrid families. First, Semana Santa is the prime spring-travel week across Spain, and both flights and the AVE high-speed trains fill quickly, so book the late-March to early-April window by January. Second, the string of autumn and December puentes can interrupt fee-payment cycles and exam preparation, so plan around them.
