What SEN covers

Special educational needs provision covers students with diagnosed learning differences (dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD, ASD), physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and emotional / behavioural needs. International schools vary enormously in depth.

Geographic differences

UK independent schools and US private schools generally have the deepest SEN expertise globally. European international schools have mid-tier provision at several established schools. Asian international schools vary widely; some have strong specialists, others honestly cannot serve specific needs.

What good looks like

Dedicated SEN coordinator with relevant qualifications, individualised learning plans with regular review, integration with mainstream classes where appropriate, transparent communication with families, and published outcomes for SEN leavers.

Fees

SEN-supported placement typically adds USD 5,000 to 25,000 per year on top of standard tuition. Specialist SEN schools (Bredon, certain US therapeutic schools) sit at premium price points.

Practical evaluation

Visit. Meet the SEN coordinator. Ask for concrete examples and outcomes. If the school cannot answer your detailed questions, that itself is an answer.
