Start with our international schools in Hanoi directory, which lists every school by curriculum and stage so you can see senior provision in context. The schools below all teach an examined Grades 11 to 12 programme that leads directly to university, and they admit by application and assessment rather than by residential catchment. This is a shortlist to research, not a ranking, and provision changes year to year, so confirm current pathways and subject lists with each school before you apply.

If you are weighing the qualification itself, our guide to the International Baccalaureate explains how the Diploma is examined and recognised, and our A-levels guide covers the alternative British route that, in Hanoi, is rare at sixth form. Most families here end up choosing between the IB Diploma and Advanced Placement, which the shortlist reflects.

The shortlist

United Nations International School of Hanoi

IB Diploma · Grades 11 to 12 · Tay Ho

The United Nations International School of Hanoi, known as UNIS Hanoi, is the city's oldest international school and a full IB continuum school, running the Diploma Programme in Grades 11 and 12. Its senior students study six subjects plus the IB core of Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity and Service, and the school reports Diploma results above the global average. UNIS also offers pathways beyond the full Diploma, such as taking individual Diploma courses alongside modified high-school courses, which gives families a degree of personalisation unusual in the city. It is the natural shortlist entry for parents who want an established, broadly international IB sixth form. Read the UNIS Hanoi profile for more.

British International School Hanoi

IGCSE into IB Diploma · Sixth form · Vinhomes Riverside

The British International School Hanoi, BIS Hanoi, is part of the Nord Anglia group and takes students from IGCSE in the middle years into the IB Diploma Programme for the sixth form, ages 16 to 18. The school publishes Diploma results that have run above the global average and lists leaver destinations at universities in the United Kingdom, North America and Asia. As a Nord Anglia school it adds global collaborations with partners such as Juilliard and MIT, which broaden the senior co-curricular offer beyond the academic timetable. It suits families who want a British-rooted school that finishes on the IB rather than A-levels. See the BIS Hanoi profile.

Hanoi International School

IB Diploma · Grades 11 to 12 · full IB continuum

Hanoi International School, HIS, is one of a small number of full IB continuum schools in Vietnam, running the Primary Years and Middle Years programmes before the Diploma Programme in Grades 11 and 12. Its Diploma students take three or four subjects at higher level and the rest at standard level, alongside the IB core, and the school runs two sets of cumulative mock examinations to prepare candidates for the final papers. Its smaller senior cohort means close teaching at the top of the school, which can suit a student who prefers a more personal sixth form than the largest campuses offer. See the Hanoi International School profile.

Concordia International School Hanoi

American curriculum · Advanced Placement · Grades 10 to 12

Concordia International School Hanoi is the city's leading American-programme option in the senior years and the obvious choice for families who prefer Advanced Placement to the IB Diploma. Students can take AP courses across Grades 10 to 12, work towards the Advanced Placement International Diploma recognised by universities worldwide, and even pursue a dual-credit option run with Concordia University Wisconsin that earns both high-school and early university credit. For a child targeting United States universities, an AP profile built here can map more naturally onto the application than the IB. See the Concordia Hanoi profile.

How we chose

We included only Hanoi schools we could confirm run a genuine, externally examined senior programme leading to university entry, in practice the IB Diploma or Advanced Placement, and that enrol students through to Grade 12. We did not rank, score or rate them, because the right sixth form depends on your child's subjects, the qualification their target universities prefer, and the fit of the school's size and culture. A student aiming at United States colleges may favour the AP route at Concordia, while one applying broadly across the United Kingdom, Europe and North America often finds the IB Diploma at UNIS, BIS or HIS travels furthest. Verify current subject lists directly, as schools add and retire options each year.

Fees and next steps

Sixth form fees in Hanoi sit at the upper end of each school's fee schedule, and the senior years are typically the most expensive stage, before separate examination and registration costs. Rather than quote figures that move each year, we keep the live bands in one place: see our guide to international school fees in Hanoi for current tuition by school and stage, and confirm the exact senior-year figure, plus any IB or AP examination fees, with the school before you apply.

To build a shortlist around your child, use the school finder, browse the full Hanoi schools directory, or read the qualification guides for the IB Diploma and A-levels to decide which senior route fits your family's plans.

Common questions

Which Hanoi schools offer the IB Diploma in the sixth form?+

The United Nations International School of Hanoi, the British International School Hanoi and Hanoi International School all run the IB Diploma Programme in Grades 11 and 12. Each is an authorised IB World School, so confirm the current subject list with the school as options change year to year.

Does any school in Hanoi offer Advanced Placement instead of the IB?+

Yes. Concordia International School Hanoi follows an American programme and offers Advanced Placement courses through Grades 10 to 12, with the option to work towards the Advanced Placement International Diploma. It suits families on a United States university pathway who prefer AP to the full IB Diploma.

Are A-levels taught in Hanoi sixth forms?+

A-levels are uncommon in Hanoi, where the senior years are dominated by the IB Diploma and Advanced Placement. Families set on A-levels should confirm provision directly, since most British-curriculum schools in the city follow IGCSE into the IB Diploma rather than into A-levels. See our A-levels guide for how the qualification is examined.

How much does sixth form cost in Hanoi?+

The senior years sit at the top of each school's fee scale and are usually the most expensive stage. Figures change each year, so we keep current tuition by school and stage in our international school fees in Hanoi guide rather than quote a number that dates quickly.

Do Hanoi sixth forms admit by catchment?+

No. Hanoi international schools admit by application, assessment and interview rather than by residential catchment. Apply directly to each school and check its entry requirements and any prior-attainment expectations for the IB Diploma or Advanced Placement.
