How many IB schools in Warsaw

Around ten Warsaw area schools deliver at least one IB programme in 2026, with full continuum authorisation (PYP, MYP and Diploma) available at the American School of Warsaw in Konstancin Jeziorna and the British School Warsaw in Wilanow. The Diploma sits as the senior pathway at International European School Warsaw, Akademeia High School in Wilanow, the Canadian School of Warsaw, Lauder Morasha and several smaller bilingual and English medium providers. The IB Middle Years Programme is offered as a standalone middle school programme at a small number of further schools without continuum status.

Warsaw’s IB ecosystem has matured rapidly since the mid 2010s expansion of the city’s financial services, professional services and shared services sectors. Demand has been further supported by Ukrainian and broader Central European migration, by the steady inflow of senior expat families through the city’s role as a regional multinational headquarters, and by Polish parents seeking an internationally portable upper secondary qualification. Cohort sizes vary substantially. The American School of Warsaw runs roughly 60 to 80 leavers per year, of whom 60 to 70 per cent take the full Diploma. Akademeia runs 80 to 100 leavers. The smaller IB schools run 12 to 30 leavers, which materially constrains subject choice.

Fees and the Warsaw tiers

IB tuition in Warsaw divides into three rough tiers, all materially below the equivalent quality in Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam or Geneva. The premium tier sits at PLN 65,000 to PLN 110,000 a year at senior level (EUR 15,000 to EUR 25,500), covering the American School of Warsaw, the British School Warsaw and Akademeia High School. The upper mid tier runs PLN 45,000 to PLN 65,000 (EUR 10,500 to EUR 15,000), covering International European School Warsaw, the Canadian School of Warsaw and Lauder Morasha. The mid tier runs PLN 30,000 to PLN 45,000 (EUR 7,000 to EUR 10,500), covering several credible IB providers including the smaller bilingual and English medium schools.

The IB Diploma exam entry fees are typically charged separately at PLN 3,500 to PLN 7,500 per pupil, split across Year 12 and Year 13. Registration fees are non refundable and run PLN 500 to PLN 2,500. Capital levies are uncommon at Warsaw schools but a few of the premium providers charge a one off enrolment deposit of one term’s fees, refundable on departure subject to notice. School transport at PLN 8,000 to PLN 14,000 a year is standard for families outside the immediate school catchment. For the full picture see our Warsaw international school fees explainer.

Illustrative example schools

The schools below are illustrative, not a ranking. Each has at least ten years of operating history in Warsaw or has produced a credible IB Diploma cohort over the past three years.

American School of Warsaw (ASW) in Konstancin Jeziorna is the benchmark IB school in Warsaw and one of the strongest IB cohorts in Central Europe. Full continuum from age 3 through Year 13, with the American high school diploma running alongside the IB Diploma at sixth form and around 60 to 70 per cent of the senior cohort taking the full Diploma. Strong faculty depth across sciences, humanities and the arts. Mean Diploma score 35 to 37 in recent cohorts.

Akademeia High School in Wilanow is a sixth form only academic high school with one of the strongest Diploma averages in continental Europe. Highly selective entry at Year 10 and Year 12 with around 80 to 100 leavers per year. Mean Diploma score around 35 to 36. Particularly suited to ambitious Polish and international students targeting Oxbridge, the Ivy League and the leading European research universities.

British School Warsaw (BSW) in Wilanow runs IB Diploma alongside A Level at sixth form, an unusual hybrid that suits dual mobility families. The IB cohort is smaller than the A Level cohort but academically credible. Long established British curriculum school with a stable faculty and a strong university counselling team. Mean Diploma score 33 to 34.

International European School Warsaw in Konstancin runs the IB Diploma as the senior pathway alongside Cambridge IGCSE at Year 10 and Year 11. Around 30 leavers per year. Upper mid tier fees and a strong fit for European Union expatriate families looking for an English medium IB school at materially lower fees than the premium tier.

Where IB families live

Warsaw IB families cluster in two main areas, shaped by school location and the city’s commuting geography. Wilanow, in the south of central Warsaw, hosts the largest concentration of IB families attached to Akademeia, the British School Warsaw and several of the upper mid tier providers. The Miasteczko Wilanow residential development, the long established 2010s expansion of the southern suburbs, is the most popular single area for senior secondary IB families, offering modern apartment and townhouse stock close to several international schools and the metro extension that has shortened the commute into the city centre.

Konstancin Jeziorna, in the south south west, hosts the ASW community and the wider American leaning expatriate cohort. The Konstancin villa belt offers larger family houses with gardens, a calmer pace than central Warsaw and direct access to ASW, but a longer commute into the city centre. Mokotow and Sluzewiec, north of Wilanow, host a meaningful IB cohort attached to several mid tier and upper mid tier schools, with strong connections to the city’s financial district. Smaller IB family clusters sit in Saska Kepa on the right bank, popular with Dutch and German diplomats, and in Zoliborz in the north, popular with Polish professional households choosing the IB Diploma pathway at the smaller bilingual schools.

Admissions calendar

Premium IB schools in Warsaw open the registration cycle in October for the following September. Applications close in January and February with assessments running through the same window. ASW runs a structured admissions assessment combining English language proficiency testing, mathematics screening and a parent interview. Akademeia runs a more intensive selection process for Year 10 and Year 12 entry, including subject specific written assessments and an interview. The British School Warsaw runs a continuous rolling admissions cycle with priority offers issued to families completing assessments by February.

Year 12 IB Diploma entry rounds open at all three premium providers in October of the preceding year, with most subject combinations confirmed by March. The most over-subscribed entry points are early years and Year 7 at ASW, where waitlists at the most popular dates can reach six to twelve months, and Year 12 at Akademeia, where competition for places is the most intense in continental Europe outside the Geneva premium tier. Late applicants for September entry are reviewed on a rolling basis subject to space. Mid year entry into Year 8 to Year 10 is common because of expatriate movement.
