Why Bangkok offers value
Bangkok's international school market combines high quality (NEASC-accredited US schools, IB World Schools, Outstanding-rated UK schools) with relatively moderate fees compared to Singapore, Hong Kong or Tokyo. The city has 90+ international schools and capacity that has scaled steadily, keeping fee inflation more measured. Premium schools are still expensive in absolute terms but the value proposition relative to comparable cities is striking.

The hidden extras
Bangkok schools tend to charge upfront enrolment fees that are smaller than Singapore but meaningful. typically THB 50,000-200,000 one-time at premium schools. Annual capital levy is generally THB 25,000-60,000. School bus runs THB 50,000-90,000 per year for premium-tier schools. Lunch programmes run THB 30,000-60,000. iPad/laptop programmes from Year 5-6 add THB 20,000-40,000 per year. Total extras typically add 18-22% to headline fee at premium tier; rather more proportionally at the budget end where transport and lunch are larger relative line items.
Year-on-year fee inflation
Bangkok school fees rose an average of 5.4% across 2025-26, marginally ahead of Thailand's general inflation. Premium schools tracked 5.0-5.8%; mid-tier 4.2-5.2%. Lower than Singapore's 7%+ and Dubai's 6.4%. Budget at least 5.5% annual fee inflation in your forward planning.
Bangkok vs. Singapore: a working comparison
A premium British curriculum place at Shrewsbury Bangkok runs about THB 850,000 (USD 24,000) per year in upper secondary. The equivalent place at Tanglin Trust Singapore runs SGD 55,000-62,000 (USD 41,000-46,500). The fee differential is roughly 70-90%. Quality differences exist but they are nowhere near 70%. For families with placement flexibility, Bangkok delivers substantially better value than Singapore.
Sibling discounts in Bangkok
Most Bangkok schools offer 5-10% off second and subsequent siblings. Some, including several mid-tier schools, offer 15%+ on third and beyond. See our full sibling discount table for the 2026 figures.
Currency exposure
The Thai baht has been relatively stable against USD over the past two years. EUR and GBP-paid families have seen moderate currency tailwind from baht weakness. Premium schools quote in THB only, so currency exposure stays with the family. We recommend termly rather than annual fee payment for non-USD-paid families to spread currency timing risk.
Comparing Bangkok premium schools on fee
Within Bangkok's premium tier, fee differentials are smaller than reputation gaps suggest. NIST and ISB sit at the top of the fee range; Bangkok Patana and Shrewsbury slightly lower; Harrow and Bromsgrove competitive. The right answer is rarely "cheapest premium" or "most expensive premium". it's the school whose curriculum, neighbourhood and culture best fits your family. See our Bangkok schools ranking for fit-based comparison.
