Why Bangkok stands out in Asia
Bangkok is genuinely Asia's best-value major school city. Tier 1 fees that would buy you a Tier 3 school in Singapore or Hong Kong; cohort diversity that rivals the deepest international hubs; rolling admissions that don't require 18-month lead times. Combined with Thailand's LTR visa and 17% flat tax for skilled professionals, Bangkok has emerged as the destination of choice for families considering a multi-year Asian posting that balances quality and cost.
The trade-offs: traffic that defines daily life, a school sector less inspected than KHDA-Dubai or Singapore CPE, and smaller A-Level cohorts at British schools than the Singapore equivalents. None of these are deal-breakers; all of them shape the right shortlist.
The 2026 top 10

Several schools warrant tour visits. Bromsgrove International School (UK Bromsgrove heritage). St Stephen's International School (smaller cohort, central Bangkok). Garden International School Bangkok (Bang Na campus, modular fee structure). Australian International School Bangkok (HSC and IB pathways). RIS Swiss Section (rare Swiss-curriculum option). Singapore International School Bangkok (Singaporean-aligned curriculum).
Fees and the all-in number
Bangkok Tier 1 tuition runs THB 800K to 1.05M (USD 22K to 29K) for 2026 to 2027. Add 30% for capital levies, transport, books and exam fees and the all-in number is THB 1.04M to 1.37M (USD 28K to 38K) per child per year. Materially below Singapore Tier 1 (USD 60K+) for comparable academic outcomes. See our hidden fees article for the structural picture.
Neighbourhoods that match these schools
- Sukhumvit (Soi 1 to Soi 71): NIST, KIS, Bromsgrove. Central, condo-rich, BTS-served. The default expat hub.
- Sathorn / Silom: Riverside Shrewsbury catchment via car. Good for families with central business district commute.
- Bangna corridor: Bangkok Patana, Wells, Concordian, St Andrews 107. Eastern Bangkok suburbs, more space, BTS extension.
- Pak Kret / Northern Bangkok: ISB. Quieter, more space, harder commute to central Bangkok.
- Krungthep Kreetha: Brighton College Bangkok. Newer eastern suburb, growing expat density.
Admissions reality
Bangkok is broadly rolling-admissions. Most schools accept applications year-round and place children with 4 to 6 months notice. Tier 1 schools (ISB, NIST, Bangkok Patana) can fill popular year groups (Y7, Y12) 12+ months ahead. Apply 9 months out for Tier 1, 4 to 6 months for Tier 2. Read our admissions timing guide.
