The Doha fee landscape

Doha hosts about 100 private schools, regulated by Qatar's Ministry of Education and the Qatar Foundation Education City cluster. Premium British, American and IB schools sit at QAR 80,000-110,000 per year. Education City schools (ASD - American School of Doha, Qatar Academy) sit at the top of the market. Mid-tier schools at QAR 50,000-80,000. Lower-fee schools start around QAR 25,000.

The hidden extras

Total cost-of-place adds 12-18% to headline fees in Doha. Largest line items: registration and re-registration deposits (QAR 2,000-5,000), school bus (QAR 6,000-12,000. Doha distances make this material), uniform (QAR 1,500-3,500), iPad/laptop programmes (QAR 3,500-7,000), exam entries (QAR 3,500-7,000 in IGCSE/A-Level/IB years), residential trips (QAR 3,000-9,000), termly building/activity fund contributions.

The employer-funded reality

The vast majority of Doha expat families have school fees paid directly by employers (or as part of a structured education allowance). The exact fee level matters less than the structure of your education allowance: caps per child, age limits, multi-child treatment, what's covered (tuition only or extras), and currency in which the allowance is denominated. Negotiate the allowance carefully at offer stage. getting it wrong has 4-7 year financial implications.

Year-on-year fee inflation

Doha school fees rose 4.8% on average across 2025-26, modest by Gulf standards. Premium schools tracked 5.0-5.5%; mid-tier 4.0-5.0%. Budget at least 5% annual fee inflation, and ensure your employer education allowance includes an inflation indexation clause.

Doha vs. Dubai vs. Abu Dhabi

A premium American curriculum place at ASD Doha runs about QAR 95,000 (USD 26,000) per year. The equivalent at Dubai American Academy runs AED 75,000-100,000 (USD 20,400-27,200). The equivalent at American Community School Abu Dhabi runs AED 70,000-90,000 (USD 19,000-24,500). Doha sits at the top of the Gulf premium fee range, partly reflecting Education City's branding and partly the structural concentration of high-paying expat families.

Sibling discounts

Most Doha school groups offer 5-10% sibling discounts. Some Education City schools offer none. See our sibling discount table for 2026 figures.

Currency exposure

Qatari riyal is pegged to USD. USD-paid families have no currency risk; GBP and EUR-paid families carry full currency risk. Same dynamics as Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
