Singapore and Paris attract very different families. Singapore is the safest large Asian city, with a Tier 1 international school bench and excellent infrastructure, at a premium. Paris is the deeper cultural city, with bilingual French-English schools that no Asian capital can replicate, and a workable cost of living for European executives. Most parents pick on lifestyle and university-pathway preference more than on headline fees.

Schools landscape side by side

Singapore's shortlist is short and very strong: UWCSEA, Tanglin Trust, Singapore American School, Dulwich College Singapore, Stamford American International and the Australian International School. Demand for Years 1, 7 and 12 commonly produces 6 to 18 month waiting lists at the top three names.

Paris has around 30 international and bilingual schools. The names families shortlist most often are the International School of Paris in the 7th, the American School of Paris in Saint-Cloud, the British School of Paris in Croissy-sur-Seine, Ecole Jeannine Manuel and Marymount International. The bilingual French-English schools are a category Singapore does not offer at scale.

Not sure which city fits your family?

Take the 5 minute school finder quiz, then run the cost calculator for both cities. You get shortlisted schools plus a side by side relocation budget in under ten minutes.

Fees and value for money

Singapore premium schools publish secondary fees of SGD 38,000 to SGD 56,000, roughly USD 28,000 to USD 45,000, with a building levy of SGD 3,000 to 10,000 on top. Plan for 4 to 7 percent annual uplift.

Paris international fees run EUR 23,000 to 31,000 in middle school and EUR 27,000 to 42,000 at IB Diploma or A Level, with EUR 5,000 to 9,000 in Year 1 capital and registration. The cities sit broadly in the same headline band, but Paris bilingual schools are materially cheaper and Singapore housing in school catchments is much more expensive. Run both through the cost calculator.

Curriculum availability

Singapore tilts IB and American by school count. Paris is unique among major expat cities for the depth of its French-English bilingual provision, alongside IB, British and American pathways. If your child may eventually apply to French universities or Grandes Ecoles, Paris is the stronger pick. If you want a portable English-medium IB pipeline, both cities deliver. See the IB hub.

Neighbourhoods families pick

Singapore catchments matter. Bukit Timah suits Tanglin and Dover Court. The East Coast suits UWCSEA East and OFS. Holland Village and Dempsey suit Stamford American. Woodlands serves Singapore American School. A three-bedroom condo in those areas runs SGD 8,000 to 14,000 per month.

In Paris, English-medium families pick the 7th, 8th and 16th arrondissements for the International School of Paris and Marymount, or Neuilly, Saint-Cloud and Boulogne for the American and British schools and ISP's St Germain campus. A three-bedroom flat in those catchments runs EUR 3,500 to 6,500 per month.

Lifestyle and climate

Singapore is hot and humid year round, with daily afternoon storms families adapt to quickly. Public transport is world class and personal safety is survey-leading. Paris is temperate, with cool damp winters, warm summers, and the cultural depth of any major European capital. Weekend travel is easy in both cases: Singapore for Southeast Asian beaches, Paris for the rest of Europe by train.

Verdict: who picks which city

Choose Singapore for academic outcomes, safety, infrastructure and a Tier 1 IB bench, if your role can carry the premium. Choose Paris for cultural depth, bilingual French-English schools, and access to the French and EU university pipeline. Many families we work with run both cities through the school finder quiz and pick on which curriculum their child is already inside.

One quiet advantage of Paris is the bilingual middle path. A child who picks up working French inside one of the bilingual schools graduates with a credential that opens both English and French university systems, with no extra exam load. Singapore offers excellent Mandarin enrichment but rarely full bilingual immersion. If you value a second European language for your child, Paris wins the bilingual question outright.
