Curriculum and academics

The Puxi campus runs the same Dulwich Shanghai pathway as Pudong, so the academic experience is consistent across the group. Students follow an enhanced English National Curriculum to Year 9, take Cambridge IGCSE in Years 10 and 11, and complete the IB Diploma in Years 12 and 13. As the newer site, opened in 2016, it was purpose built on a large green campus.

That campus gives the school room for natural grass pitches and play spaces, a heated indoor pool, a theatre and specialist science laboratories, which support a full programme of sport, music, drama and service alongside academics. To compare it with the Pudong campus and the other British options in the city, read our best British schools in Shanghai guide. Ask the campus directly for its most recent IB Diploma results.

Admissions

The academic year starts in August and the main intake follows it, with rolling entry where places allow. As a school for children of foreign nationals, the Puxi campus admits students who hold a foreign passport, in keeping with Chinese regulations, so confirm eligibility and documents before applying. Admission involves an application with school reports and an age appropriate assessment.

As the newer campus, Puxi can have more capacity at some year groups than the longer established Pudong site, but popular entry points still carry waiting lists, so apply early. Sixth form entry into the IB Diploma is the most selective point and depends on prior attainment and subject choices.

Location and who goes there

The campus occupies a large green site of around forty thousand square metres in Minhang district on the western side of Shanghai, serving families in the Hongqiao area and the wider Puxi side of the river. The scale of the site is one of its distinguishing features, with space for outdoor pitches and facilities that a denser city campus could not offer, and it draws mainly from the residential compounds of western Shanghai.

The community is internationally mixed, with a strong British and wider European and Asian presence in line with the college's heritage. Families usually choose between Puxi and the eastern Pudong campus on the basis of where they live and the facilities that matter most to them.
