Curriculum and academics
West Island School teaches a Middle Years framework in the lower school, then IGCSE or BTEC courses in Years 10 and 11. In the sixth form students choose the IB Diploma, the IB Career related Programme or a BTEC pathway, so the school can suit both the academically ambitious and students who prefer applied, vocational study.
As an authorised IB World School, West Island publishes its Diploma results each summer, and prospective families should ask the admissions office for the most recent cohort figures rather than older numbers. For how the Diploma compares with British A Levels and the American system, see our IB curriculum guide, and weigh it against the rest of the city on the IB schools in Hong Kong hub.

Source: English Schools Foundation (join-us.esf.edu.hk). Secondary only (Years 7 to 13). Plus an annual building levy. Years 11 to 13 are lower than 7 to 10. Fees are the most recent published figures and exclude one-off costs such as registration, deposits and capital levies. Always confirm current fees directly with the school.
West Island School charges the standard ESF secondary fee, the same across the foundation, which places it in the mid band for Hong Kong. Fees are reviewed annually and increases are subject to approval, so confirm the current schedule with the school before you budget.
Families also pay a one off non refundable capital levy, starting at roughly HK$26,000 in Year 7 and tapering up the school, and the foundation issues nomination rights and corporate debentures that bring priority in admissions. Our Hong Kong international school fees guide shows where the ESF fee sits and how the levies and extras add up. Admissions
West Island admits through the central ESF secondary process, with priority for certain passport holders and for nomination right and debenture holders, and many places taken by pupils moving up from ESF primary schools. External applicants are considered subject to space, and the year starts in August.
Sixth form entry depends on the pathway and subjects a student wants, so applying early helps. Register interest, confirm the current criteria and arrange a visit, especially for a Year 12 start on the Diploma or a BTEC route.
Location and who goes there
The campus is on Victoria Road in Pok Fu Lam, on the slopes of Mount Davis overlooking the Lamma Channel, on the western side of Hong Kong Island. That puts it within reach of Pok Fu Lam, Kennedy Town, Sai Ying Pun and the western districts that have grown popular with international families since the MTR extended west.
The community is genuinely international, reflecting the British, Australian, Canadian, American and local families who live on the west of the Island. To weigh West Island against the other Diploma options nearby, start with the Hong Kong city hub and the best IB schools in Hong Kong.
