The Abu Dhabi school context
Abu Dhabi's school sector is governed by ADEK (Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge), which publishes detailed inspection reports comparable to Dubai's KHDA. The market is smaller than Dubai (around 220 private schools serving roughly 200,000 children) but with strong quality concentration at the top. The Aldar Academies group anchors much of the British provision, while individual UK independent school overseas campuses (Cranleigh, Repton) sit at the top tier.

UK Brighton College heritage. Strong A-Level outcomes despite being a younger campus. Strong SEN provision. Particularly suited to families with mixed academic profiles.
The British School Al Khubairat
The longest-established British school in Abu Dhabi (founded 1968). Strong A-Level outcomes, established alumni network. Khalifa Park location with strong housing catchment.
GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
The premier American-curriculum school in Abu Dhabi. AP and IB Diploma pathways. Strong US Ivy and top liberal-arts pipeline. Khalifa City location with strong American expat community.
American Community School Abu Dhabi (ACS)
Established American school (founded 1972). AP and IB Diploma. Bateen location with central city access. Strong faculty stability and balanced cohort.
Aldar Academies group flagships
Aldar's flagship campuses (Al Yasmina, Al Bateen, Al Mamoura, Cranleigh-by-Aldar) anchor much of Abu Dhabi's middle-tier British provision. Strong primary years particularly. Group-wide sibling discounts.
International School of Choueifat (Khalifa City)
SABIS-curriculum school with strong academic outcomes. Lower fees than the British and American flagships. Distinctive structured pedagogy. Good fit for families wanting academic rigour at lower price point.
Cranleigh Abu Dhabi (Junior)
Sister to the senior Cranleigh campus. Strong primary years with seamless transition. Saadiyat Island location with beach access and family-friendly setting.
Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi (Lycée Louis Massignon)
French Lycée operating under Sorbonne UAE umbrella. French Baccalauréat. Excellent value for francophone families and those wanting bilingual French-Arabic outcomes alongside French-curriculum continuity.
What didn't make the top 10
GEMS World Academy Abu Dhabi, Raha International School, Al Yasmina Academy, The Pearl Academy. Several growing schools warrant consideration depending on neighbourhood and curriculum priorities.
Fees and the Saadiyat premium
Abu Dhabi Tier 1 fees average AED 80K (USD 21.8K) tuition for 2026 to 2027. With 30% loading, the all-in figure is AED 104K (USD 28K) per child per year. Materially below Dubai Tier 1 (USD 33K all-in) for comparable academic outcomes. Saadiyat-located schools command a 5 to 10% fee premium over equivalent mainland campuses.
