The Riyadh fee landscape

Riyadh's international school market has expanded dramatically since Vision 2030 began driving substantial expat hiring. Premium British, American and IB schools sit at SAR 75,000-105,000 per year. Multiple new premium schools have opened or are opening 2024-2027 (Sherborne Riyadh, Misk Schools, KAUST Schools). Demand still exceeds supply at established premium schools.

The hidden extras

Total cost-of-place adds 15-20% to headline fees in Riyadh. Largest line items: registration and re-registration deposits (SAR 2,000-6,000), school bus (SAR 7,000-13,000. Riyadh distances make this material), uniform (SAR 1,500-3,500), iPad/laptop programmes (SAR 4,000-7,500), exam entries (SAR 4,500-8,500 in IGCSE/A-Level/IB years), trips (SAR 3,500-9,000), termly building/activity fund contributions.

Year-on-year fee inflation

Riyadh school fees rose 6.5% on average across 2025-26, ahead of Saudi CPI of 2.6%. Premium schools tracked 6.5-8.0%. capacity-constrained schools push aggressive fee increases. Mid-tier 4.5-5.5%. Saudi Ministry of Education has begun regulating maximum increases at certain schools but enforcement is uneven. Budget at least 6-7% annual fee inflation in your forward planning.

The Vision 2030 capacity story

Saudi expat hiring has surged since 2020. particularly in finance, technology, NEOM/Red Sea projects, and aviation. Premium school capacity has not kept pace. Multiple new premium schools are opening (Sherborne Riyadh, additional KAUST Schools campuses, Misk Schools expansion) but waitlists at established premium schools remain long. Plan early. apply 6-12 months before relocation.

Riyadh vs. Dubai vs. Doha

A premium British curriculum place at BISR Riyadh runs about SAR 90,000 (USD 24,000) per year. The equivalent at Dubai College runs AED 80,000-105,000 (USD 21,800-28,600). The equivalent at Doha College runs QAR 90,000-110,000 (USD 24,700-30,200). Riyadh sits in line with Dubai premium tier; slightly below Doha premium. The biggest practical difference is school choice. Dubai has materially more options.

Sibling discounts

Most Riyadh school groups offer 5-10% sibling discounts. Some larger groups offer 15%+ on third+. Premium internationals (AISR, BISR) often offer no formal sibling discount. See our sibling discount table.

Currency exposure

Saudi riyal is pegged to USD. USD-paid families have no currency risk; GBP and EUR-paid families carry full currency risk. Same dynamics as Dubai and Doha.
