How many IB schools in Dubai
Dubai currently lists 32 authorised IB World Schools with the International Baccalaureate Organization. That is the highest concentration of IB provision per capita in the Middle East, beating Doha, Riyadh and Abu Dhabi by a wide margin.
About 18 of those 32 schools offer the full IB Diploma at sixth form. The remainder run PYP and MYP only, transitioning their secondary cohorts onto IGCSE and A Level or the American high school diploma. Families targeting a continuous IB pathway from age 3 to 18 should focus on the dual or triple programme schools, of which Dubai has roughly a dozen.
The cluster is mature. Most IB schools in Dubai have run the Diploma Programme for at least seven years, which matters because IB outcomes correlate strongly with how long a school has been delivering the programme. Newer entrants from 2021 and 2022 are still finding their feet on Extended Essay supervision and CAS coordination.
Fees and the KHDA tiers
IB tuition in Dubai is grouped into three rough tiers. The value tier, running from $13,500 to $17,000 per year for secondary, covers schools such as GEMS Wellington Academy Silicon Oasis and Uptown International School. The mid tier sits at $18,000 to $24,000 and captures most of the established names including JESS, GEMS Wellington and Repton. The premium tier, $24,000 to $30,200, is Dwight, Dubai International Academy and the senior years at Swiss International Scientific School.
Published tuition is not the all-in cost. KHDA permits annual fee increases tied to inspection rating, so Outstanding-rated schools are typically permitted larger uplifts. On top of tuition, expect 25 to 30 percent in capital levies, transport, books, exam fees and trips. A $22,000 tuition fee is closer to $28,000 once everything is paid. GEMS Wellington International School in Al Sufouh runs both British and IB pathways at sixth form, with Diploma cohorts that consistently average above 36 points. It is the most balanced flagship in Dubai if you want both curriculum options open.
Dwight School Dubai in Al Barsha South is the strongest pure IB option, running the full PYP, MYP and DP continuum. Smaller cohorts than the GEMS estate, with a sister campus in New York.
Repton Dubai in Nad Al Sheba runs dual British and IB sixth form. Strong music and sport programmes, UK independent school heritage.
Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills is the legacy IB school in Dubai with Diploma results frequently ranking among the city's strongest. Smaller and more academically focused than the newer entrants.
Where IB families live
IB families in Dubai cluster around four areas. Al Sufouh and Jumeirah for the coastal premium feel, near GEMS Wellington and Dubai International Academy. Al Barsha and Dubai Hills Estate for proximity to GEMS World Academy, Dwight and Dubai American Academy, which now runs IB alongside its US diploma. Nad Al Sheba and MBR City for Repton and the newer Sobha Hartland developments. The Greens and The Springs for value-tier IB schools serving the Dubai Marina and JLT working population.
IB tends to attract internationally mobile families on shorter assignments who value curriculum portability.
Admissions calendar
Applications for the September 2026 academic year opened in most Dubai IB schools between October and December 2025. Tier 1 schools close their main intake for Year 7 and Year 12 by late January. Late applicants are placed on a waiting list and offered places only as withdrawals come through, typically May to August. For families relocating mid-year, applications are accepted on a rolling basis subject to availability, with most movement happening between November and February.
If you are committing to a specific Tier 1 IB school, apply 9 to 12 months before your desired start.
