American provision in Prague: the reality
Prague is not an American curriculum city in the way that Cairo, Singapore or Geneva are. There is no large purpose built American high school with a full US transcript, a US accredited middle school feeder and a NEASC reviewed athletic programme. What Prague has instead is a small cluster of international schools with strong American DNA in their founding stories, where AP courses, US style college counselling and SAT or ACT testing sit comfortably alongside an IB Diploma core.
The Czech capital has a moderate US expatriate population built around the US embassy in Mala Strana, the corporate operations of IBM, Microsoft, Honeywell, Dell, Johnson Controls and CocaCola in the western business parks, and a long established faith based community connected with Riverside School. The combined population is large enough to sustain three American influenced school options, not large enough to sustain a dedicated American school. Families wanting a pure US curriculum experience often choose International School of Prague, which uses American teaching staff, American school leadership and an American calendar even though the credential is the IB Diploma not a US high school diploma.
Illustrative example schools
Three Prague schools that American families consistently shortlist, each on a different point of the market.
International School of Prague (ISP) in Nebusice was founded in 1948 by the United States and Canadian diplomatic communities and remains the most American feeling international school in the city. The school runs the IB Diploma but offers around twelve AP subjects each year, the US grade level naming convention from kindergarten through grade 12, and an American style athletics and arts programme. The Diploma cohort sits around 70 a year. ISP is the natural choice for US families on diplomatic, executive or government adjacent postings. Tuition runs to EUR 28,000 in the Diploma years.
Riverside School Prague in Karlin was founded in 1994 by a US connected Christian charitable trust and retains a US faith heritage in its ethos while delivering the secular IB PYP, MYP and Diploma to all comers. The school is smaller than ISP, around 350 students, with a Diploma cohort of around 25 a year. Riverside is a strong fit for US families on shorter postings, NGO families and those wanting a more pastoral and church connected community. Fees sit materially below ISP at EUR 13,000 to EUR 19,000 a year.
Park Lane International School across two central campuses runs the IB Diploma alongside a small selection of AP courses for sixth form pupils targeting US universities. Park Lane is the most central option for families based around the embassy district. Park Lane tuition runs from EUR 13,800 in early primary to EUR 23,400 in the Diploma. The school produces a steady flow of leavers into US universities every cohort.

Fees and the all in cost
American influenced school fees in Prague split into three clean bands. Riverside School sits in the entry band at EUR 13,000 to EUR 19,000 a year, with the upper Diploma years still well below ISP and Park Lane premium pricing. Park Lane occupies the mid band, EUR 13,800 to EUR 23,400 across the through school, with the Mala Strana primary campus a touch cheaper than the Hellichova senior site. International School of Prague is the premium band, EUR 18,500 to EUR 28,000 a year, reflecting its diplomatic catchment, large campus, US accreditation infrastructure and depth of AP provision.
Above tuition expect a one off registration fee of CZK 30,000 to CZK 80,000, an annual capital levy that varies by school, lunch and bus of CZK 50,000 to CZK 90,000 a year, the AP exam entry of around CZK 4,000 a paper paid to the College Board, and SAT or ACT sitting fees. Health insurance is mandatory for school admission and adds CZK 20,000 to CZK 35,000 a year for non EU children. Our Prague school fees guide sets out the full picture. Admissions calendar and timing
The Czech school year runs from early September to late June. ISP, Riverside and Park Lane open applications for the following September in October, with offers from January through March and waitlist movement into the summer. Prague is unusual in that mid year transfers are routine, with US corporate postings typically arriving in January or August. All three schools accept rolling applications outside the main admissions window when capacity allows. For US families on Foreign Service postings, ISP has experience with the bidding cycle and can hold a place against a confirmed assignment.
Where American families live
The American expatriate community in Prague clusters in three corridors. The largest is Prague 6 west, particularly Nebusice, Hanspaulka, Dejvice and Bubenec, within the ISP catchment and the historic diplomatic enclave around the US embassy residence. The second is Karlin, Holesovice and the Vltava waterfront, close to Riverside School Prague and increasingly favoured by younger US tech and finance arrivals. The third is Mala Strana, Vinohrady and central Prague 1, attractive to embassy staff and to families using Park Lane.
