Dubai delivers tax-free pay, the deepest British school market in the Gulf and a polished family lifestyle. Bangalore delivers world-class IB schools at a third of Gulf prices, India's mildest climate and a thriving tech ecosystem. Both run credible IB pathways, both attract significant relocating families, and both reward parents who do the homework on neighbourhoods before tuition.

Schools landscape side by side

Dubai is the deepest international school market in the Middle East, with over 220 schools regulated by KHDA. Flagships include GEMS Wellington International School, Repton School Dubai, Jumeirah College, Dubai College, JESS Arabian Ranches, Dubai American Academy and the IB-heavy Nord Anglia International School. British names dominate at the top end. See the Dubai schools hub.

Bangalore's premium international market is small but exceptionally strong, centred on IB. Flagships include TISB on the Hosur Road, Stonehill International (IB continuum) on Tarahunise, Indus International on Sarjapur, Inventure Academy and Canadian International School in Whitefield. Most run full IB Diploma plus IGCSE in early secondary. See the Bangalore schools hub.

Fees and value for money

Dubai premium fees at Repton, Dubai College, Jumeirah College or DAA sit between AED 75,000 and AED 110,000 in the IB Diploma or A Level years. Mid-tier British and IB options run AED 50,000 to 75,000. Add transport AED 6,000 to 10,000 and uniforms AED 1,000 to 1,800. KHDA-regulated capital fees are capped at 5 percent of annual tuition.

Bangalore premium fees at TISB, Stonehill, Indus and CIS sit at INR 800,000 to 1,500,000 per year (roughly USD 9,500 to 18,000). Mid-tier IB and IGCSE options run INR 300,000 to 700,000. Capital levies of INR 150,000 to 250,000 are common at first enrolment, as are 12-month waiting lists at TISB and Stonehill. Even at the top end, Bangalore fees are typically a third of Dubai's.

Curriculum availability

Both cities cover IB and British pathways. Dubai tilts British at GEMS, Repton and Dubai College, with the IB Diploma at Nord Anglia, GEMS World Academy, Raffles, and DAA. Bangalore tilts IB at TISB, Stonehill, Indus and CIS, with IGCSE through Year 11 and IB Diploma in Years 12 and 13. The IB Diploma remains the safest portable credential in either city. Indian university entry through CBSE or ICSE alongside IB is uniquely strong in Bangalore. See the IB hub.

Neighbourhoods families pick

In Dubai families cluster in Arabian Ranches, the Springs, Dubai Hills and Mudon for villa lifestyles, plus Jumeirah for beach access and Downtown for high-rise convenience. A four-bedroom villa in Arabian Ranches runs AED 280,000 to 480,000 per year.

In Bangalore families pick Whitefield for proximity to Canadian International and TISB, Sarjapur Road for Inventure and Indus access, Hebbal and Yelahanka for Stonehill catchment, and HSR Layout or Indiranagar for shorter commutes. A four-bedroom villa in Whitefield runs INR 120,000 to 280,000 per month, around USD 1,400 to 3,400.

Lifestyle and climate

Dubai is hot and arid year round, 18 to 45 degrees, with extreme summer humidity along the coast. Family life leans on beach clubs, indoor entertainment, Yas Island weekends and short flights across the Gulf. Healthcare and safety are exceptional. Bangalore offers India's most temperate climate, 16 to 32 degrees year round, with monsoons from June to September. Family life centres on parks, the Cubbon Park weekend rituals, weekend trips to Coorg or Chikmagalur and a thriving food and music scene. Air quality is generally better than Delhi or Mumbai but worse than Dubai.

Verdict: who picks which city

Choose Dubai if tax-free pay matters, you want a polished international school experience with British depth, and you can manage four months of intense heat. The corporate package culture covers tuition, housing and flights for most senior expat families. Five-year savings against most European hubs can be substantial.

Choose Bangalore if your work is in tech, you want world-class IB schooling at a third of Gulf prices, and you value temperate weather over coastal heat. Even top-tier fees at TISB or Stonehill rarely exceed USD 18,000. Most families we work with model both cities through the cost calculator before deciding.

Frequently asked questions

Is Dubai or Bangalore cheaper for international school families in 2026?

Bangalore is dramatically cheaper. Top IB fees at TISB or Stonehill sit at INR 1.0M to 1.5M (USD 12,000 to 18,000) against Dubai's AED 75,000 to 110,000 (USD 20,000 to 30,000). Housing for a four-bedroom family unit is roughly a third in Bangalore. Dubai's tax-free salary closes some of the gap, but Bangalore wins on absolute outlay.

Which city has stronger international schools?

Dubai has greater breadth (220 plus schools, multiple brand names per curriculum). Bangalore has fewer schools but unusually strong IB depth: TISB and Stonehill regularly produce Indian IB top scorers. Quality at the top is comparable for IB; British depth heavily favours Dubai.

Is the family visa easier in Dubai or Bangalore?

Dubai is faster and more flexible. Employment Residency and Golden Visa families are typically processed in two to four weeks, and the system is built around expat families. India's Employment Visa runs four to eight weeks and is renewed annually. Both are workable but Dubai's process is more polished.

How does the climate compare for families?

Dubai is hot and arid year round, 18 to 45 degrees, with extreme summer humidity. Bangalore is mild and pleasant year round, 16 to 32 degrees, with monsoons from June to September. Outdoor sport from October to April is excellent in Dubai; year-round outdoor life is easier in Bangalore.

Where do most expat families live in each city?

In Dubai families cluster in Arabian Ranches, the Springs, Dubai Hills, Mudon and Jumeirah. In Bangalore they pick Whitefield, Sarjapur Road, Hebbal and HSR Layout, mostly chosen for school proximity and tech-corridor commute times.
